Farewell to Eden

Acclaimed and bestselling author Sebastian Faulks discusses the background to his latest book Farewell to Eden, published this September, with historian Simon Heffer.  It explores the disruptive power of war and the psychological trauma of post-war life.  Philip, an emotionally scarred soldier returns to England after a peace-keeping mission in Palestine in the final days of the British Mandate.  Some years later he meets Frances and hopes for more; but Philip is irrevocably changed by war.  He carries the secrets and scars of all he has lived through which threaten the promise of a better life.  Faulks captures a rich portrait of embattled post-war Britain in a sweeping and profound novel about faith, suffering and humanity.
